However, what proved to be a challenge was the process of discipling these new believers, many of which were illiterate. While we ministered in remote areas of the Ivory Coast, it was quite exciting to enter villages that had never heard a gospel presentation, preach, and see people come to faith in Jesus Christ. Missionaries will not remain on the field forever and national leadership needs to be adequately prepared to give the work sustainability and foster multiplication. Over time, it has become evident to us the real need of preparing national leadership to assume more and more responsibilities in carrying out the ministry in their country and the expansion of evangelism and church planting. Our ministry assignments have changed considerably over the more than 37 years that we have been with IM. We have accepted the temporary position of Missionaries in Residence at Randall University in Moore, OK, helping to develop future missionaries. Previously, we served as missionaries for 18 years in Ivory Coast, Africa. We have also been busy developing training manuals and translating FWB books into Portuguese. Kenneth teaches at the Escola Teológica Batista Livre (FWB Theological School) and began expanding the availability of the training of leaders to satellite centers in other churches where we have worked. Our ministry is focused on leadership training and the development of the Alliance of Free Will Baptist Church in the country.
